The US Senate on Thursday approved former US Ambassador to Russia William Burns as head of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
According to the press service of the Senate, Burns’ candidacy was approved unanimously. He will be sworn in soon.
Burns served as ambassador to Moscow from 2005 to 2008. In 2011-2014, he served as the first deputy secretary of state of the United States, and in recent years is the president of the Carnegie Endowment.
