The US State Department confirmed information about lowering the status of the Syria mission at the UN.
The representative of the State Department, on the terms of anonymity, informed the Anadol agency regarding a decrease in the status of the Syrian mission in the UN.
According to the official, recently, Syria’s mission at the UN in New York, explanations were provided regarding the classification of visas of mission members. He emphasized that this administrative decision is based on the current policy of the US recognition.
“at present, the United States does not recognize any education as a government of Syria,” said the representative of the State Department, noting that the privileges or immunities of accredited members of the permanent representative office of Syria at the UN have not changed. He also added that the classification of visas partially depends on the US recognition policy.
Thus, the United States officially confirmed the change in the administrative status of the Syrian mission to the UN, referring to the lack of recognition of the current government of Syria. At the same time, it is emphasized that this will not affect the privileges and immunity of diplomatic mission workers.
