The US Department of Justice reported the confiscation of the aircraft of Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro in the Dominican Republic.
The plane that Maduro usually uses for his foreign trips was confiscated in the Dominican Republic, as he was acquired through a dummy company and taken bypassing American sanctions imposed on Venezuela, the Ministry of Justice said.
It is expected that the confiscation of the aircraft in the Dominican Republic will lead to a further exacerbation of relations between the United States and Venezuela, which became even more tense after the elections in the country.
Following the results of the elections announced in Venezuela on July 29, Maduro won the presidential election for the third time, gaining 51.20 percent of the vote.
Candidate from the opposition coalition Edmundo Gonzalez and the leader of the Venezuelan opposition Maria Korina Machado rejected the election results.
In turn, the US administration announced the opacity of voting results. According to the White House, the results of the elections do not reflect the will of the people of Venezuela.
