NASA specialists in conjunction with the employees of the National Laboratory Idaho at the US Mainnergo reported the beginning of the campaign to collect ideas and proposals for the placement of nuclear power plants on the surface of the moon, transfers 3DNews.
It is assumed that the NPP will become a permanent source of electricity for the space station located nearby.
NASA believes that the achievement of the sustainable placement of space stations in the orbit of the Moon will serve as a start for the subsequent development of other planets of the solar system, in particular, Mars.
It is reported that the atomic reactor will be built on Earth, after which it will be delivered to the surface of the moon. According to preliminary data, the power of the power plant will be at least 40 kW, and the guaranteed life of at least 10 years.
