Russia requested 56 visas for a delegation from the United States, which should represent the country at the UN General Assembly, but has not yet received one. It is reported by Reuters.
A General Assembly session will begin on September 20, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova and other diplomats, should go to New York. The US State Department explained that they do not have time to process applications.
“Russia’s unreasonable actions against our embassy in the Russian Federation, including forced dismissal of local employees, seriously limited our staff and, therefore, our visa processing opportunities,” said the representative of the State Department.
Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenais complained to the Secretary General of the organization Antoniu Guterrish. He stated that the situation is “causing anxiety”, because recently Washington has been constantly refusing to issue entry visas to Russian citizens – delegates to other UN events. The office of Gaterrish replied that the Secretary General is in close contact with the USA and the Russian Federation by visas for the Russian delegation.
