The House of US Representatives approved a bill prohibiting transgender people to participate in women’s sports competitions in schools.
In the House of Representatives, where the majority draw up the Republicans, a bill prohibiting all transgender athletes from elementary school to the level of the university to participate in women’s sports competitions, was adopted 218 votes against 206.
During the debate who preceded voting, the Republicans argued that the participation of transgender women born of men in female sports is unfair to other sportswoman. Democrats, on the contrary, called the bill discriminatory and harmful to students.
It is noteworthy that the bill was supported by two democrats from Texas – Henry Kuelar and Vicente Gonzalez.
If the bill is approved by the Senate, schools allowing transgender girls or women to participate in competitions will lose federal financing in the field of education.
The participation of people born men in women’s sports competitions after the floor change caused disputes throughout the country. Republicans raised this issue in their election campaigns last year, spent on advertising on this topic at least 111 million dollars.
The elected US President Donald Trump also stated during his election campaign that if the Congress does not accept the law on this topic, he uses his presidential powers to introduce a ban.
