The United States announced the weakening of restrictions on traveling to Cuba and money transfers to relatives between the United States and the Communist Island, which were introduced under the Donald Trump administration, Voice of America reports.
“The Cuban people are faced with an unprecedented humanitarian crisis, and our policy will still be aimed at expanding the capabilities of the Cuban people to help them create a future free of repression and economic suffering,” the US State Department said.
It is noted that the weakening of the embargo in relation to Cuba will lead to an increase in the number of visas issued, including the consulate in Havana, although most visas will continue to be issued at the US Embassy in Gayan.
In addition, the statement says that this will “contribute to educational connections” between the two countries, as well as the support of professional research, including “support for expanded Internet access and companies engaged in money transfers”. To increase the flow of money transfers, the US government will cancel the current limit of $ 1000 per quarter for each sender and will allow transfers to persons who are not family members to “support independent Cuban entrepreneurs.”
