Ukraine in the near future may not count on receiving fighters from the United States as military assistance. Washington is not yet ready to take such a step. This was stated by representatives of the US Ministry of Defense during a briefing for journalists, Ukrainian media reports.
The Pentagon noted that the supply of fighters to the Ukrainian military is now not the closest priority for the United States. The American defense department added that during the supply of fighters it is necessary to conduct training of the military Armed Forces. In addition, military equipment needs maintenance. Currently, the United States is not ready for this, noted there.
Earlier on Tuesday, Bloomberg reported that NATO leaders are again considering the idea of providing Ukraine with MiG-29 fighters and American F-16, which they abandoned in the early days of the war in Ukraine. According to the American retired Admiral James Stavridis, against the backdrop of massive missile attacks from the Russian Federation, the West should increase its support for Ukrainian air defense efforts. Ukraine can get even more high-tech missile systems of the air-surface class, Patriot system and, possibly, tactical fighters.
