The US Ministry of Defense will keep several thousand military in Romania for at least 9 months. The military will be on the basis of the 101st Airborne Division, the mission will be headed by the two-star general of the US Army. It is reported by The New York Times.
“These forces will be the first line of defense, if Russia invades the west. Sending a general of this level so close to the war zone will allow you to quickly make decisions where to place troops and weapons,” the material says.
Earlier on the basis, the military of the 82nd airborne division sent to Romania as part of the rapid response forces after the Russian Federation’s invasion to Ukraine was on duty. The article notes that until the last it was not clear whether the Pentagon would leave a higher level unit at the air base in Romania.
However, since the summer of 2022, about 4 thousand soldiers of the 101st division have been deployed here.
