On Friday, June 28, 14 M1 Abram tanks and one M88 armored car were sent to the base in Majidze by rail. This was reported by the Stars and Stripes newspaper with reference to the US Army.
The statement notes that the object in Nidze, which will be managed by the 405th Army Field Support Brigade, “will become one of the most important objects created by NATO for more than 30 years.”
Next year it will be fully commissioned, and in total at the facility, about 400 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, 85 tanks, 190 armored vehicles, 35 artillery guns and various ammunition will be stored.
Brigade commander Colonel Ernest Lane II said that this object would strengthen NATO’s operational potential. “Its strategic location gives us many transportation options, as well as various preferences in terms of supplies,” he added.
