The United States is ready to provide Ukraine with tanks to protect against Russian aggression, but not in the near future, a senior pentagon official told CNN.
According to him, the supply of tanks are “absolutely discussed”, but they are not suitable for immediate use on the battlefield. The United States needs to train Ukrainian crews and technicians who will serve combat vehicles.
“We look at all the Ukrainian armed forces and consider the future what opportunities they need both the United States and our allies will be able to support Ukraine in building these opportunities,” the military official explained.
The United States conduct constant consultations with Ukraine, during which they discuss the necessary military assistance. So, for example, before a successful counterattack in the Kharkiv region, Kyiv sent a list of the required weapons to Washington to conduct an operation.
