US authorities disagree with restrictions on the reception of new countries in NATO. This was announced on Monday, First Deputy Secretary of State US Wendi Sherman at a special telephone briefing for journalists following the results of the Russian-American consultations that ended in Geneva on security guarantees, writes TASS.
“We will not allow anyone to stop the policies of the open doors in NATO, which was always central for the Alliance,” she said. Sherman stated that the United States does not intend to take any decisions on the situation in Ukraine without prior consultation with the country’s leadership.
According to her, Russia and the United States at the negotiations in Geneva discussed the issue of military exercises in Europe. Sherman stressed that the parties discussed “ways to establish mutual restrictions on the scale of military exercises [in Europe] and increasing the transparency of these exercises on a mutual basis.” “In our opinion, it will also become the topic of discussion at the Council meetings of Russia – NATO this week,” Sherman added, who headed the American delegation.
