USAID Sends Part Of Employees On Administrative Leave

US Agency for International Development (USAID) who do not perform “critical tasks” that are not part of the “main leadership” and not responsible for special programs will be sent on administrative leave from February 8. This is stated in the USAID message posted on the official website.

The corresponding initiative followed against the background of statements by the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Ilon Mask.

The message notes that with the exception of employees responsible for “critical tasks”, the rest of the staff around the world will be sent on administrative leave in the morning.

It is expected that employees will receive an appropriate notification on the night of February 7th.

In addition, the planning of the return of USAID employees working abroad is underway.

Discussions around USAID

US President Donald Trump on January 21, immediately after taking office, signed a decree on the revision of financing foreign programs.

According to the document, all ministries and agencies responsible for international development programs must stop payments to foreign states, as well as conduct a 90-day verification of the compliance of these programs with US foreign policy interests.

January 27, the US State Department announced the suspension of financing all international programs, including USAID.

Earlier, Ilon Musk said that due to his disagreements with the USAID management, some employees were sent on administrative leave, and the official accounts of the agency in social networks were closed.

Later Trump and Musk announced the need to close the USAID agency.
