The use of artificial intelligence (AI) at all stages in the mining industry contributes to the extraction of minerals and energy consumption, and also increases the safety and efficiency of labor.
In the 21st news dossier of the Anadolu agency called “on the way to the era of artificial intelligence”, the results of research on the use of AI in the mining sector are included.
World mining companies using artificial intelligence technologies determine mineral reserves. In addition, using these technologies, you can process large volumes of geographical data, satellite photographs and previously made records regarding the potential of deposits.
In an interview with Anadol, Mehmet Yilmaz, a representative of the mining platform created by 17 trade unions and associations, said that artificial intelligence is a technology that quickly penetrates all spheres.
“This technology has found application in many sectors of Turkey. A sphere where artificial intelligence will be used most effectively in the mining sector, labor safety is considered,” said Yilmaz.
He noted that data collection and processing is an important stage in the mining industry, and new technologies only accelerate these processes.
“From now on, you can maintain large volumes of data, including for general use. Thanks to AI, these data can be used in the right place and for the formation of the right goals. Artificial intelligence has received rapid use in all sectors. In addition, with the help of this technology, we We can in advance possible malfunctions or shortcomings in any part of the mine.
The representative of the mining platform noted that earlier the location of groups descending underground was monitored mechanically, while now thanks to AI this can be done in digital format.
According to him, one of the best areas where it is best to find the use of AI in the mining sector is labor safety.
Yilmaz noted that the mining sector is the locomotive of future Turkey, and digital technologies contribute to the environmental protection, as they contribute to reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
“Thanks to digital technologies in the areas where work is underway in the mine, ventilation is launched. Ventilation does not work just in the areas where the work is not carried out in order to save electricity. This helps to reduce carbon dioxide emissions,” said Yylmaz.
In addition, according to the representative of the mining platform, artificial intelligence is also widely used to scan the layers of rocks.
Previously, this was partially done using the cosmic detection method. From now on, these geological databases are available in digital format. It was difficult to store this data earlier, from now on this process was much easier, ”said,
