Uzbekistan: International Women’s Forum started

In Tashkent, an international forum is held dedicated to the topic of support for women.

The forum is attended by a large number of officials from more than 30 countries and international organizations, including Turkey, Switzerland, Singapore, Egypt, Kazakhstan, Russia, Italy and Kyrgyzstan.

Turkey at the event is represented by the Deputy Minister for Family and Social Services Rydwan Duran.

Speaking at the opening of the forum, the deputy prime minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Zulaikho Makhkamova said that the country has done important work to ensure gender equality and protect women’s rights.

According to her, within the framework of the steps taken, in particular, the national program was adopted to increase the activity of women in all spheres of economic, political and social life of the country and the strategy for achieving gender equality in Uzbekistan until 2030.

Makhkamova recalled that in the Law on the Elections of the country there is an article that provides for at least 30 percent of the total number of candidates for deputies from political parties from among women.

Vice Prime Minister noted that 33 percent of the leading composition of state institutions and organizations of the republic are women. “Women make up 37 percent of business workers, 47 percent of the functionaries of political parties, 46 percent of employees in the economic and industrial sectors, 49 percent in the field of higher education, 74 percent in the field of education and 77 percent in medicine,” Makhkamova listed .
