Moscow, obviously, is not too serious about the proposals of negotiations. So believes the deputy Secretary of State for political issues Victoria Nuland, who is on a visit to Kyiv, BBC reports.
Nuland came to this conclusion based on the Kremlin’s answer to statements by US President Biden.
On Thursday, Joe Biden said he was ready to meet for negotiations with Vladimir Putin if he demonstrates readiness for this. In particular, he will agree that Russian troops leave the territory of Ukraine. To which the Kremlin replied that the West “complicates” the situation, as it refuses to recognize the entry into Russia of the four regions that it annexed in violation of international law in September.
“Naturally, a diplomatic decision is a common goal for everyone, but you need a partner who wants it. And it is quite clear, whether it is an attack on energy, rhetoric or the general position of the Kremlin, that Putin is insincere and not ready for this,” – said Nuland.
