Lithuania allocated 5 million euros for the installation of solar power plants in Ukraine.
The Lithuanian government approved the Energy Sector of Ukraine for the appropriate amount on Wednesday, reports LRT.
The head of the cooperation department in order to develop the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Foreign Ministry) Rasa Kaiaren said that equipment for solar power plants should be reliable and protected from cyber attacks, therefore it should be produced in Europe.
“When choosing solar power plants, we must ensure the reliability of the installed equipment and aspects of cybersecurity so as not to create additional dependence for Ukraine, so when organizing purchases, we will try to fit such a condition that equipment should come from the European Union or European Economy,” said Kayren at a government meeting.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the energy capacities of Ukraine have declined more than half since the start of the conflict with the Russian Federation in February 2022, in addition, the supply of electricity is limited throughout the country.
The department notes that for the period from February 2022 until the end of this year, the total support of Lithuania to Ukraine will reach 1.45 billion euros.
