The volume of cargo transportation carried out by rail Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) has exceeded 2.4 million tons from the date of commissioning
BTK was launched on October 30, 2017 and is the next successful fruit of cooperation between Turkey, Georgia and Azerbaijan. At the opening ceremony of the new railway line were the leaders of Turkey and Azerbaijan Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Ilham Aliyev.
BTK length is 829 km, 504 km of which run through the territory of Azerbaijan, 246 km – Georgia, and 79 km – Turkey. The new road allowed to significantly reduce the duration of the supply of goods between Asia and Europe to 15 days.
In an interview with Anadol, the former Minister of Transport, Shipping and Communications of Turkey Ahmet Arslan recalled that the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway was ranked for the “Projects of the Century”.
According to him, only in 2022 691 thousand tons of cargo were transported along the railway BTK.
“Thanks to the railway baku-tbilisi-Kars, the railway cargo from London can reach Beijing in 12-15 days. The same supplies from Europe to Asia through Africa are carried out in 45-62 days. When using the Russian route, It takes 32 days to supply cargo from Beijing to Europe. The role of Turkey in world trade has increased in this context, ”he said.
