War in Ukraine: Artillery confrontation

The war between the Russian Federation and Ukraine is increasingly acquiring the character of an artillery confrontation, which makes it the most important aspect to supply the appropriate ammunition.

Analysis of military operations shows that most of the losses of the parties were caused by artillery blows.

Artillery, which is one of the means of fire support, plays a crucial role both in the offensive and in the defense of the troops.

Artillery shells can hit the target with much greater accuracy thanks to technological development. Artillery installations can quickly change positions with the help of self -propelled machines, and therefore they are a difficult target for the enemy.

During clashes, the parties try to minimize the losses of manpower and technology, giving priority to the destruction of fire support machines.

According to the forecasts of the Russian authorities, to maintain the superiority of the Russian army, it will be necessary to release at least 3 million artillery shells more than the Russian Armed Forces now.

According to the Ukrainian military, if at the beginning of the war Russian troops produced 60 thousand artillery shells per day, then in 2023 this number decreased to 20 thousand, and today to 10 thousand.

Ukraine reports using the Armed Forces of Ukraine 2500-3600 artillery shells per day.

According to available data, Ukraine annually produces 1.3 million artillery shells, and Russia – 3.6 million.

Since the beginning of the war in February 2022, the parties released at least 11 million artillery shells.

Munition for shooting of cannons and howitzers consist of bullets, gunpowder and fuses.

Along with Russian -made tools, the Armed Forces of Ukraine also use weapons and ammunition provided by Western countries after the start of the war.

The warring parties use artillery shells with a caliber from 105 to 203 millimeters.

Russian troops shoot with artillery shells of caliber 122, 130 and 152 mm. In addition to the Russian Federation, these shells are widely produced in China, Iran and North Korea,
