Seven Western countries called for Russia to withdraw recognition of the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. The relevant joint statement was distributed by France, USA, United Kingdom, Norway, Ireland, Estonia and Albania, timed to his anniversary of the events of 2008.
“Today we again call on the Russian Federation … immediately withdraw their armed forces and cancel the recognition of the so-called independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, which are the territory of Georgia,” the report says, which quotes RBC.
Representatives of these countries expressed regret that the territorial integrity of Georgia continues to be disturbed by Russia.

Russia recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in August 2008. This was preceded by an armed conflict in South Ossetia. On the night of August 8, 2008, Georgia introduced troops to the region. In response, the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev announced the beginning of the operation “for coercion to the world.” The confrontation lasted five days. According to official statistics, during the conflict, 170 people were killed or disappeared from the composition of the Armed Forces of Georgia, almost 2 thousand official losses of the Russian army were injured – 64 dead and 291 victims.
