Chinese Chairman Xi Jinping addressed US President Joe Biden to prevent the speaker of the House of Congress of US Congress Nancy Pelosi to visit Taiwan, writes The Washington Post with reference to sources.
As a high -ranking official from the White House told the publication, a telephone conversation was held between the leaders of China and the United States on July 28, in which Xi Jinping addressed Joe Biden with a request to interfere with Pelosi’s visit, but Biden said that he could not do it because members Congress themselves make decisions on foreign trips.
During the conversation, Baiden also warned Xi Jinping against provocations during Pelosi’s trip to Taiwan.
“Supreme officials of the United States were deeply concerned about this trip of the speaker and believed that China uses Peloshi’s visit as an excuse to aggravate the situation with Taiwan,” the newspaper notes.
Before her visit, Pelosi made it clear to the White House that she was ready to revise her trip if Baiden directly asks her not to go or if the president of Taiwan calls his invitation, the article says.
