The Russian billionaire of Azerbaijani origin Farhad Akhmedov asked the European Union to remove sanctions from it. It is reported by The Times.
According to the publication, the billionaire sent an appeal to the EU Council. In circulation, Ahmedov asks to cancel sanctions to his yacht Luna. The yacht is currently estimated at 225 million pounds.
However, the European Union says that the oligarch, who has a condition of about 1.36 billion pounds, is “a businessman close to the Kremlin working in sectors of the economy, providing a significant source of income for the Government of the Russian Federation”.
Akhmedov’s name was included in the fifth package of EU sanctions against Russia in April. As part of the sanctions, assets and bank accounts of the businessman are frozen, and his trips to the EU countries are prohibited. After Akhmedov fell under sanctions, his Luna yacht was arrested in the German port Hamburg.
The businessman’s yacht was previously detained in the port of Dubai during the divorce proceedings with his ex -wife. At the end of last year, after Akhmedov and his ex -wife Tatyana Akhmadov reached an agreement on compensation, Luna left the port of Dubai and went to Europe. The ship was repaired on one of the Hamburg shipyards when Russia started a war against Ukraine. As a result, the yacht could not be removed from the jurisdiction of the European Union.
Recall that dozens of giant yachts of Russian millionaires-millionaires were arrested in European ports because of the war unleashed by Russia in Ukraine.
