What were discussed by Sahiba Gafarov and Artis Pabriks

The chairman of the Milli Majiba Sakhib Gafarov met with the deputy prime minister, the Minister of Defense of Latvia Artisa Pabrix, who had arrived in Azerbaijan, said Haqqin.az in the press service of the Milli Majlis.

Sahiba Gafarova said that she was glad to welcome the guest in the Milli Majlis. She expressed confidence that the meeting and discussion included in the agenda of the Pubrix visit will play a role in the development of bilateral relations.

The speaker noted that Azerbaijan and Latvia are friendly states, an exceptional contribution to the progress of the relations of which is made by bilateral visits and meetings of a high level. In this sense, the documents signed during trips of President Ilham Aliyev to Latvia and the visits of the Latvian presidents to Azerbaijan.

The head of the Azerbaijani parliament also shared thoughts about the prospects for Baku’s relations with the European Union and about cooperation, in which Azerbaijan was involved in the framework of international organizations. She also touched on the activities of Latvia as a member of the EU. It was said that cooperation with the EU is one of the foreign policy priorities of Azerbaijan and that the preceding signing of a new bilateral agreement negotiations are at the final stage.

As for the Azerbaijani-Latvian inter-parliamentary interaction, the chairman of the Milli Majlis remembered her conversations with the chairman of the Latvian Sejm Inara Mournie and the country’s leadership when visiting Latvia two months ago. Azerbaijan is the state of the following independent foreign policy, and inter -parliamentary relations play a significant role in the paradigm of interstate relations. Effective cooperation has been built between our legislative bodies, within which visits are especially highlighted by two sides and the activities of groups of parliamentary friendship.

Having thanked for the organization of the meeting, the deputy prime minister and Minister of Defense of Latvia Artis Pabriks described Azerbaijan as a friendly country for Latvia and emphasized the interest of Latvia in the further development of diverse relations with Azerbaijan. He again congratulated Azerbaijan on the liberation of his lands.

According to Artis Pabrix, Latvia is a supporter of the fact that the countries of the South Caucasus have lived in peace and stability, and is ready to continue to provide Azerbaijan in international organizations.

During the conversation, the exchange of views on other topics of interest to both parties also took place.
