CIA Director William Burns and Director of Foreign Intelligence Service Sergey Naryshkin discussed at a meeting in Turkey the need to maintain communication channels between the two countries. This was told by the representative of the US National Security Council John Kirby.
“They discussed the preservation of open channels of communication with Russia on issues that affect the future of our security. … At the meeting in Ankar, it was about ordinary communication channels with the Russian Federation that remain open,” he said to Bloomberg.
Kirby also pointed out the need to conduct dialogue with Russia in order to avoid “miscalculations”.
On November 14, negotiations between Russian and American delegations were held in Ankara. According to Reuters, Russian-American negotiations did not concern the settlement of the situation in Ukraine. The director of the CIA brought to Russia a message about the consequences of the use of nuclear weapons. The White House stated earlier that Berns, which was the US Ambassador to Russia from 2005 to 2008 and speaks Russian, did not negotiate the end of the war. Ukraine warned of the upcoming Russian-American negotiations.
