In Sudan, as a result of clashes between the army and detachments of rapid response forces, 270 people died. This was announced at a briefing by the general director of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adan Goebreesus.
, according to him, WHO is seriously concerned about the situation in Sudan.
“According to the operating staff of the Ministry of Health, Sudan said that 270 people or more than 2,600 were injured as a result of clashes. They died tragically and three employees of the UN World Food Program,” Goebreysus said.
He noted that the most fierce clashes took place in the capital of the country, Hartum.
The head of the WHO added that the activities of the country’s medical facilities were limited due to an unsafe environment. “The current situation makes it difficult to access medical workers and ambulances to medical institutions and risk more lives,” he stated.
According to him, the reserves of medicines distributed to the country’s medical institutions until the recent escalation of the conflict have already been exhausted, and hospitals in the capital of Hartum reported a lack of personnel and vital drugs.
In Hartum and a number of other cities of Sudan in the morning, on Saturday, April 15, armed clashes between the army and the SBR broke out. The clashes lasted all night.
Disagreements regarding the reform of military security, which provides for the complete integration of the SBR into the armed forces, resulted in a hot conflict between two power structures.
