WHO: risk of spread of monkeys in world was evaluated

The World Health Organization (WHO) is currently evaluating the risk of the spread of monkeys at the global level as moderate, but does not exclude that the situation may worsen. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

WHO sets up information about 257 laboratory and 120 estimated cases of monkeys. It is noted that the deaths were not reported.

“Currently, the general risk for public health care is evaluated as moderate, given that this is the first case of a simultaneous message about cases of monkeys in widely disparate geographical areas of WHO,” the organization said.

.

In addition, it is emphasized that the sudden appearance and wide geographical coverage of many sporadic cases indicates that the widespread transmission from humans to a person already occurs and the virus could circulate unnoticed for several weeks or longer.

At the same time, the WHO notes that the risk for public healthcare associated with the smallpower of the monkeys can become high if the virus takes the opportunity to establish itself as a pathogen and spreads among groups with a higher risk of serious illness, such as small children and faces with Weakened immunity.

Most of the population is vulnerable to the monkey smallpox virus, since vaccination against natural smallpox, which provides some cross protection, has been stopped since 1980 or earlier in some countries.
