For more than three months, the war has been going on in Ukraine, and the German authorities still adhere to heavy weapons promised by Kyiv. At the moment, Spain is waiting for Berlin to give “good” to the supply of modern German tanks to Ukraine Leopard-2. According to the Spanish newspaper El Pais, Madrid is ready to send 40 of the LEOPARD-2 tanks to Ukraine. However, under the terms of the agreement with the manufacturer, Germany should allow the export of its tanks to the third country. And this is what Berlin does not do.
Note that all this happens against the background of the most difficult fights that Ukraine, which is in need of modern military equipment, leads in the territory of Donbass.
The Ukrainian Minister of Defense Alexei Reznikov wrote on his Twitter that Kyiv does not suit either the pace of supplies or the number of Western weapons. For the counterattack of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, missile systems of volley fire, hundreds of heavy tanks, fighters and anti -aircraft complexes are needed. In the meantime, the actions of the Ukrainian army in the Donbass are mainly aimed at restraining the Russian army. According to Reznikov, the Armed Forces of Ukraine daily loses from 100 to 200 military personnel killed and up to 500 fighters wounded.
Nevertheless, the Chancellor of Germany Olaf Sholz continues to repeat that he does not want to involve Germany in the Third World War. And the Scholytsa does not apply to the arguments that, according to the UN Charter, the supply of even heavy types of weapons to countries that have been aggressed does not turn the state supplying weapons into a participant in the armed conflict.
On the reasons for the indecision of the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany and other European leaders Haqqin.az talked with Andreas Umland, an analyst of the Stockholm Center for the Study of Eastern Europe at the Swedish Institute of International Relations.
