According to Turkish media reports, the Russian billionaire oligarch Roman Abramovich met in Istanbul with Azerbaijani businessman Mubariz Mansimov, head of the Palmali group of companies.
It is reported that Abramovich wants to buy a football club in Turkey and applied for advice to Mansimov. Azerbaijani businessman is a member of the Congress of the Beshiktash football club.
Mansimov advised Abramovich in three football clubs. This is “Başakşehir”, “̇stanbulspor” and “kasımpaşa”.
It is argued that the Russian oligarch expressed interest in acquiring these clubs. Abramovich and Mansimov still have not commented on the spreading information about the meeting.
Roman Abramovich was forced to sell the London football club Chelsea after the outbreak of the war, unleashed by Russia against Ukraine. The oligarch brought his luxurious Eclipse yacht to Bodrum and settled in Istanbul. It is also known that Abramovich acted as an intermediary in negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. According to reports, the oligarch is preparing to invest the main part of its capital in Turkey and considers several projects in this regard, including the construction of a recreational complex in Bodrum.
