The ruins of the city of Ani in the province of Kars in the east of Turkey attract local and foreign tourists at all times of the year, but in the winter this place is distinguished by special beauty.
Ani’s ancient ruins, bred in the middle of the two deep narrow gorges of Arpachi on the border with Armenia, for many centuries have been a place of concentration of various crops and civilizations. The ancient city, based on an area of about 100 hectares, is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
In the territory of Ani throughout history, dozens of other civilizations lived along with the Turks, in 970 – 1320. Here they spoke at least six languages, including the Armenian, Greek, Turkish, Arabic, Georgian and Persian, Christians and Muslims lived side by side.
