The earthquake that occurred in Turkey was felt in Nakhchivan and Lenkorani, the general director of the Republican Center for the Seismological Service at the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan Gurban Etirmyshels said at a press conference to journalists.
Etirmashchi noted that the earthquake in Turkey, the epicenter of which was in Kazakhmanmarash, lasted more than 9 minutes, occurred at a depth of 8-15 kilometers: “Therefore, many buildings were destroyed as a result of the earthquake.”
Speaking about whether it is possible in Azerbaijan a strong earthquake in the coming days, Etirmashchi noted that the earthquake in Turkey occurred at about 700-800 km from the border with Azerbaijan: “An earthquake that occurred at such a distance cannot arouse seismic foci In our country. Although underground shocks are registered in Azerbaijan every day. But most of them are not felt. Therefore, in the coming days, strong shocks are not expected in the country. “
He also indicated that the allegations of the artificial origin of the earthquake in Turkey are not true. Etirmashchi noted that earthquakes occur as a result of processes in the bowels of the Earth: “This is not an artificially created explosion, but a process that occurs in the depths of the breeds.”
The general director of the Republican Center of the Seismic Service recommended that the seismological state of the terrain should be studied before building buildings in Baku. He noted that “it is impossible to build buildings only on the basis of a map of the microdistrict. With these cards, it is impossible to work in seismic areas. In this process, a seismic situation should first be evaluated.”
