Work on modernization of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway is completed

The head of the Azerbaijani Railway state company Rovshan Rustamov said that the work on the modernization and expansion of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway has been completed, and the annual line of the line increased from 1 million tons to 5 million tons

Rustemov told the Azerbaijani State Information Agency (Azertj) about the work on modernization and expansion of the BTK.

noting that the BTK is of great importance for accelerating the delivery of goods transported from China and Central Asia to Europe through Azerbaijan by land, Rustamov said: “Completed work on the repair, reconstruction and expansion of the 184-kilometer site of the BTK passing through the territory Georgia.

He stated that the main goal of the modernization of the BTK is to increase the competitiveness of the central corridor and the transformation of the BTK into one of the main cargo arteries of this corridor, and said: “After expansion, the annual capacity of the BTK increased from 1 million tons to 5 million tons. Rustamov added that in connection with the modernization work of transportation in BTK, they were temporarily suspended in May 2023: “The updated BTK will provide our direct railway communication with brotherly Turkey and will contribute to the transportation of more goods between our countries”.
