World Sales Of Electric Vehicles In January-February Grew By 30%

In January-February, world sales of electric vehicles increased by 30 percent compared to the same period last year. Such data are given by the British research company RHO Motion.

World sales of electric vehicles in February increased by 49 percent compared to the same period last year and amounted to almost 1.2 million units. However, last month, sales fell by 3 percent compared to January 2024.

In two months covering January-February 2025, sales of electric vehicles in the world increased by 30 percent compared to the same months of last year and reached 2.4 million

During this period, 1.4 million of the total number of sales was on China, where electric vehicles have increased by 35 percent compared to last year. In the first two months of this year, 130 thousand cars of the BYD brand were sold in China.

In the European Union, the European Free Trade Association (EAST) and the UK, sales of electric vehicles in January-February increased by 20 percent compared to the same period last year, amounting to 500 thousand units. Despite the overall growth in sales in European countries, in France they turned out to be weak because of the new tax that entered into force in January.

During the specified period of the sale of electric vehicles in the USA, Mexico and Canada, they grew by 20 percent and reached 300 thousand units.

In the two months of the current year, sales of electric vehicles in the United States grew by 28 % compared to the same period last year. US President Donald Trump announced his intention to cancel the benefits for electric vehicles, however, according to forecasts, consumers will continue to use these benefits before their official cancellation.

Over the rest of the world, the total volume of sales of electric vehicles in January-February grew by 35 percent and amounted to 200 thousand units.

Tesla sales are sharply reduced

According to RHO Motion, the largest manufacturer of electric vehicles in the USA, Tesla, the start of a year with difficulties, reducing sales in Europe and China. In January, Tesla sales fell by 47 percent in Europe and 15 percent in China.

During this period, Tesla sales in France, Germany, Great Britain and Belgium reached the bottom – the fall was 63 percent.

It is believed that Europeans negatively reacted to the intervention of the American billiarode businessman Elon Mask in regional policy, refusing to shop Tesla.

Chinese BYD sales continue to grow, despite the EU tariffs

The head of the RHO Motion data department Charles Leicester, evaluating the sales of electric vehicles, said that an increase in sales in February by 50 percent is a “solid start”. According to him, mainly sales growth was due to the rise in the Chinese market.

He noted that, despite the high tariffs introduced by the EU, sales of the Chinese brand BYD do not show signs of slowdown in both the domestic and international markets.
