WSJ: West is afraid that time can play benefit of Russia

Behind the solution of Western leaders to dramatically change tactics and significantly increase military assistance to Kyiv, there may be fears that time will play for the benefit of Russia, writes Wall Street Journal.

According to Western politicians, the window of opportunities for Ukraine is not endless, but in order to turn the course of the war, Kyiv needs to provide a more powerful weapon as soon as possible, including combat tanks and air defense systems. For a long time in the West hoped that after a difficult winter, military losses and deterioration of the economic situation due to sanctions, Moscow would strive to turn the conflict and begin to look for opportunities for establishing peace. However, this calculation, it seems, did not materialize: the first anniversary of the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and Moscow is approaching, despite the losses incurred and the sanctions intended to deploy a new offensive in Ukraine.

Now some Western leaders believe that the Kremlin, ready to continue mobilization, can win, adhering to the tactics of a long military conflict. Perhaps the Kremlin expects that over time, the population of Europe and the United States will all enthusiastically maintain the efforts of governments to assist Ukraine. In addition, in some countries, leaders and the government may change during this time.

As the publication emphasizes, Western politicians understand that Russia has quite large resources to establish the production of weapons without the use of Western technologies, as well as to conduct a new wave of mobilization.
