The Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan Kamran Aliyev called the construction of a large metallurgical plant in the border zone “a great crime”. The Prosecutor General said this at the conference passing in Nakhchivan dedicated to the border cooperation of the prosecutor’s offices of Azerbaijan and Turkey.
He called the construction of a large metallurgical plant a serious crime and the discharge of toxic substances in the second largest river of the South Caucasus – Azraz.
“The pollution of the Araz River affects the quality of water resources, including Flora and Fauna. The activity of the plant, which will be built near the Sadarak district, will not only pollute the Araz River, but will also seriously affect the flora and fauna. In addition, If a metallurgical plant works, this will violate the environment, an ecosystem in a large strip, will lead to poisoning of the atmosphere with poisonous substances, ”he said.
Aliyev also noted that Armenia again grossly violates the norms and principles of international law, in particular the provisions of the UN Convention on the assessment of environmental impact in the cross -border context (ESPO Convention) of the European Economic Commission of the UN. “This is not the first time that Armenia does not comply with the norms of international environmental law,” he stated.
Prosecutor General called the conference in Nakhchivan “An example of friendship and fraternity between Azerbaijan and Turkey.”
Aliyev emphasized that the Schuchaya river flows into the second largest river in the South Caucasus – Araz, and its pollution directly affects the quality of water reserves of the Azraz River.
