Yun Sok Yol Is Released From Custody, But Will Remain In Court

In South Korea, former President Yun Sok Yul, removed from his post and arrested after the introduction of martial law, was released from custody. The court decided to consider his case without physical detention.

According to Yonhap, Yun Sok Yol, accused of “incitement to the rebellion”, left the Seoul Center for Conclusion after 52 days of stay there.

Despite the release, the trials against the ex-president, as well as the initiated impeachment procedure, will continue.

The court decision caused mass support of Yun’s supporters. About 600 people gathered at the Seoul Conclusion Center, another 2 thousand at the presidential residence. They kept posters in support of the ex-head of the state and chanted slogans. Yun, in response to the applause, worshiped the audience twice.

January 15, Yun was detained as part of an investigation on the introduction of martial law, which the National Assembly of the country recognized as unconstitutional.

During the first interrogation that lasted more than 10 hours, he refused to testify. Later, the court authorized his arrest on charges of “leadership of the rebellion” and “abuse of power.”

However, yesterday, the Central District Court of Seoul satisfied Yun’s appeal and decided to free him from custody.
