The oldest grandmaster in the world, Yuri Averbakh, died at the age of 100. This was reported in the Telegram channel of the Russian Chess Federation.
Averbach received the title of Grossmaster in 1952. In 1965, he became an honored master of sports of the USSR. He was awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples, medals “For Labor Valor” and “For Valiant Labor in Promising the 100th anniversary of Lenin’s birthday.” On his account, the victory at the 19 USSR championship of 1954.
