The issue of organizing a collective security agreement (CSTO) Armenia is guided by the priority tasks of its armed forces.
This was stated at a briefing by the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova, commenting on the refusal of Yerevan to accept the exercises of the organization in 2023.
“Last year, the Ministry of Defense of Armenia also did not allocate a contingent to participate in exercises in Kazakhstan,” Zakharova recalled.
“This forces the allies in the organization to redraw agreed plans and creates difficulties. But the work within the CSTO continues, the issue will be resolved,” she assured.
January 10, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that Yerevan is considered to be inappropriate to conduct CSTO exercises in Armenia this year.
“The Minister of Defense of Armenia (Suren Papikyan) has already informed the United Staff of the CSTO that in this situation we consider it inappropriate to conduct the exercises of the CSTO (in Armenia), and they will not take place this year,” Pashinyan said.
