Prime Minister Fumio Kisida decided to invite the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky to take part in the online institute of the leaders of the G7 countries, which should be chaired by Japan on February 24.
This was reported by Kyodo.
It is noted that the head of the Japanese government announced the corresponding decision at a meeting of the leadership of the Liberal Democratic Party, the chairman of which he is. Earlier it was reported that Zelensky’s desire to take part in the meeting of the leaders of the Seven was voiced by the Ukrainian side.
The negotiations of the G7 leaders will be the first this year under the chairmanship of Japan and will be held on February 24. As the Kyodo agency previously reported, at the meeting the parties plan to coordinate positions on maintaining sanctions pressure on Russia and continuing assistance to Ukraine.
Japan has repeatedly stated that it would promote this position as the chairman of the G7 this year. Among the negotiations, there may also be issues of restoration of infrastructure and ensuring stable energy supply of Ukraine.
