President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky believes that the world is a few steps from political chaos in dozens of states, which may become a consequence of food and inflation crises. According to Interfax-Ukraine, Zelensky said during a speech in the analytical center Chatham House.
“Clanting Europe for launching the Nord Stream – 2 gas pipeline last year, Russia provoked a price crisis in Europe. Gazprom deliberately did not give the desired volume of gas to the market to cover the deficit, and as a result of all this – gas prices in Europe reached the maximums, with a historical maximum. It hit all Europeans without exception, ”he said.
The President recalled that Russia is now blocking the captured Ukrainian ports.
According to Zelensky, “the global market is left without sufficient supplies from Ukraine of some key types of products. This is what we have, what is the priority for the world: grain, sunflower oil, corn, other agrarian goods”.
“What consequences do we see? In some countries, there is a deficiency of sunflower oil. In other countries, agro -production chains are inhibited in other countries. In other countries, there is a shortage of basic foods.
All this together creates pressure on prices. In northern Africa, the Middle East, in Asia. And then this will affect other regions of the world. And the poorest will suffer. We are sure that the middle class will suffer. Obviously, the political consequences of this can be dangerous. Why do I say: political chaos is one of the components of food safety, ”the leader of Ukraine added.
