President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov called on European countries and the United States to recognize the current government of Afghanistan represented by Taliban and return “frozen” assets. The leader of Kyrgyzstan said this in an interview with the Turkish TRT AVAZ.
“As you yourself know, in 2021 the leaders of the Taliban movement came to power in Afghanistan. They continue to rule the country to this day. Whether we want this or not, the fact remains unchanged – the country is ruled by the Taliban. This is impossible to deny. countries, including us, excluded the Taliban from the list of prohibited organizations, ”said Zhaparov, whose words are quoted by Akipress.
He noted that the Afghan people have suffered and have difficulty from war and its consequences for many years. “Although we do not have a direct border with Afghanistan, it is in contact with our neighboring country. Therefore, the deterioration of the situation there bothers us to some extent,” the president said.

According to Zhaparov, some time after the Taliban came to power, Bishkek made contact with them to assist the Afghan people and repeatedly sent humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan.
“As I have already noted, a further aggravation of the situation in Afghanistan can have a negative impact on our region. Therefore, we do not hide that we cooperate with the current government of Afghanistan. We provide assistance, as far as we are in our power. Of course, this is not enough. If this is not enough. The Taliban would be weak, the Afghan people have long overthrow them from power.
The president also attracted attention to the fact that the isolation of Afghanistan from the rest of the world will not solve the problem, but on the contrary, “the longer the current situation lasts, the more Afghan people will experience difficult days.”
Zhaparov recalled that when the Taliban came to power in the summer of 2021, the assets of the Central Bank of Afghanistan worth $ 9.4 billion, which were abroad, were “frozen” by Western countries. “Of these, about $ 7 billion are in the USA. I believe that these funds must be returned as soon as possible to improve the situation in Afghanistan and the well -being of the Afghan people,” he said.
