Deputies of the European Parliament arrived in Georgia at a historical moment, which rarely happens in the country. About this, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili said at a joint briefing with the chairman of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs David Macallister.
“The visit takes place at a very important moment for us, there were few such historical moments. This visit may be decisive for our European future. At this time, it is extremely important to listen to European parliamentarians and share our messages with them. It should also be noted that deputies of European parliamentarians We arrived today as part of a regional visit. It also emphasizes the geopolitical significance of this region in the modern world, ”the president said.
Zurabishvili also drew attention to the European perspective of Georgia and the implementation of 12 Brussels recommendations necessary for the country to receive the status of a candidate for EU members:
“We must understand, and, perhaps, this is the main thing for this country, that the European prospect, which was given to us by the European Parliament, as well as the European Council, is extremely important. Sometimes we forget about it and do not see that this is a step taken, which will no longer be withdrawn. This requires us to be worthy of this European perspective. On the other hand, the next future may be even more important that we will receive the status of the candidate at the end of the year if we fulfill the main recommendations that we call 12 points, And the work on which should begin. This work should begin in Brussels, where, according to my expectations, representatives of the authorities will go to clarify some details with the commission and how some parts of these points should be fulfilled. “
